Philadelphia Family Pride Conference 2023
Lex Horwitz (they/them) is facilitating two workshops at the Philadelphia Family Pride Conference on October 14th, 2023 at the School of the Future.
Trans in Athletics: Inclusion & What Does It Mean to Be 'Fair?’
Hear from Lex Horwitz (they/them) on how to understand and approach the trans in athletics “debate” and best practices on how to ensure transgender student-athletes have fair, respectful, affirming and inclusive access to athletics. In addition to leaving with tools to advocate on this issue, you’ll hear some of Lex’s story as the first out non-binary/trans athlete who competed at their college and in their sport, and their journey switching from the women's to the men's team.
Time: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Get Up! Stand Up!
Learn to stand up for yourself and others in this interactive session with educator Lex Horwitz (they/them) aimed at 7-13 year olds. We'll also review the Gender Unicorn (the differences between gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, sex, etc.). We will also discuss proactive ways to be an ally and advocate for yourself and your peers.
Time: 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm
About the Conference:
For the past 13 years, the Philadelphia Family Pride Family Matters Conference has been a valued tradition for LGBTQ+ led families and LGBTQ+ prospective parents throughout the Philadelphia region. We welcome and appreciate all kinds familial connections. We embrace a broad range of parenting experiences as well as LGBTQ+ folks seeking to become parents, wherever they are in their journey.
This conference is our biggest educational event of the year.
Our 14th Annual Family Matters Conference will take place as a fully in-person event this year on Saturday, October 14 from 9am-4pm at the School of the Future located at 4021 Parkside Avenue in Philadelphia near the Philadelphia Zoo, Please Touch Museum, and easy on/off to I-76.
The theme for this year's conference will be "Reclaiming Family Values" and the keynote speaker will be Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta. In the current climate of attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, PFP is focusing our efforts at this event on learning how adults and kids can advocate for our families.
