Resources
The resources and guides on this page have been thoughtfully cultivated to support both queer folx and allies alike in gaining accurate and affirming education, information, and resources on LGBTQIA+ identities, topics and issues.
No matter who you are or what identities you hold, continuing your LGBTQIA+ education is a vital and integral component of being an effective ally in action to all members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and also an opportunity for self growth.
If you are seeking resources that you can not find here, please reach out to Lex at info@lexhorwitz.com to request additional resources.

Developmental Stages of Understanding Gender in Young Children
“Developmental Stages of Gender”: A breakdown of understanding gender from ages 18 months to 8 years old. This resource also includes research on understanding versus disclosure from Reimagine Gender [written material; short read].
“Addressing LGBTQ+ Student Safety Concerns in Schools” by researchers Todd Savage and Leslie Lagerstrom [research presentation with powerpoint slides and listed additional resources]
“Gender Inclusive Schools: Child Development and Research” from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) [written material; 3 pages].
Note from Lex: I frequently get the question about what is “age appropriate” to discuss with children and youth, with many people (incorrectly) believing that children are “too young” to (1) know their identities and (2) understand these topics. The truth is that gender and sexuality topics are age appropriate topics to discuss with youth of all ages, and the above are some resources to help folx understand why this is, and how to effectively and age appropriately engage in these critical and meaningful conversations with children. And remember, silence (or omission) treats LGBTQ+ topics, identities, and issues as taboos and/or something to be ignored or erased, thereby perpetuating the damaging societal and cultural narrative that marginalizes LGBTQ+ people and leads to continuing discrimination, stigma, harm, and violence enacted against LGBTQ+ people.
