Philadelphia School District Gender & Sexual Health Summit 2025

Lex is facilitating two sessions at the Philadelphia School District Gender and Sexual Health Summit 2025. One session is for GSA Sponsors and the other are for School Leaders/Principals.

Session 1: Sponsors
Taking Action: Identifying and Disrupting Barriers to LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

Description:

In this session sponsors will explore their spheres of influence and concern in order to champion for LGBTQIA+ safety, interests, and rights. Sponsors will use a discussion protocol to share barriers they are experiencing, leverage the wisdom and power of the group, and identify ways to disrupt and dismantle these barriers.

Goals and Expectations:

  • Identify systems of oppression uniquely impacting non-binary, trans, and gender diverse people (youth and adults) in schools – transphobia, cisnormativity, cissexism, homophobia, heterosexism, heteronormativity

  • Small group and whole group discussion to identify and then develop action strategies and next steps to address the (1) interpersonal, (2) group/community, (3) organizational/institutional, and (4) cultural/societal barriers that impact non-binary, trans and gender diverse people in schools

  • Leave with tangible tools and action steps to begin implementing changes in our schools to better advocate for and show up for the LGBTQIA+ community

Session 2: School Leaders
Breaking Barriers: Disrupting and Dismantling Inequitable Systems to Create More Inclusive School Communities

Description:

In this session, leaders will learn information about how to actively cultivate affirming school environments. This includes how to navigate school “politics,” engaging in difficult conversations, and tangible tools to implement across each school.

Goals and Expectations:

  • Identify and understand systems of oppression – transphobia, cisnormativity, cissexism, homophobia, and heterosexism

  • Understand some day-to-day assumptions, interactions, barriers, microaggressions, biases and stereotypes that impact the experience of queer, non-binary, trans, and gender diverse people in school

  • Leave with advocacy strategies and tangible tools to utilize as an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and/or for self-advocacy in your schools

  • Discussion and activity to address systemic barriers that impact non-binary, trans and gender diverse people in schools
