Recent Projects and Partners

Lex facilitated programming for The Visiting Nurse Association (day long institute with follow up programming), The Human Rights Campaign (three part program), People’s Light (keynote and workshop), Education Voters of PA (PA for Welcoming and Inclusive Schools three part series), The Philadelphia School District (educators, athletics, Gender and Sexual Health Summit), PFLAG, American College of Physicians (two part program), Goldey-Beacom College (keynote) and Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania.

This year, Lex presented at the Trans Wellness Conference, Philadelphia Family Pride Conference, Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Conference, Creating Change Conference, Keystone Conference, The City College of New York (CUNY) LGBTQ+ Student Conference, and The Pennsylvania Permanency Conference.

Within higher education, Lex facilitated their series of programming for the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, University of Massachusetts, Amherst CollegeTrinity College, Millersville University, Hamilton College, Bowdoin College, Wooster College, Middlebury College, Connecticut College, Temple University, and Columbia University. Additionally, Lex is a consultant and educator for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

Within primary and secondary education, Lex has worked with The Philadelphia School District, The William Penn Charter School, The Crefeld School, Friends Select School, Lancaster Friends School, Claire Lilienthal School and Davis Academy.

Regarding policy and producing resources, Lex partnered with the NESCAC to create a resource that helps folx understand and navigate the NCAA trans inclusion policy in inclusive and affirming ways and to create a Best Practices for Supporting Trans and Non-Binary Athletes Guide. Additionally, Lex has collaborated with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) to support inclusion of non-binary and transgender people in athletes.

Within medicine and health care, Lex created Temple University Health System’s Gender Affirming Care website, and is a research co-investigator on a project on gender affirming health through the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Center for Urban Bioethics. Additionally, Lex facilitates support groups for trans youth at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is a consultant for Michigan State University’s Global Health Studies Program through their Center for Gender in Global Context program.

All of Lex’s programming and resources are developed for each community to address their unique needs while addressing the core foundational information on LGBTQIA+ identities.

More About Lex

Lex Horwitz (he/they) is a passionate queer, non-binary transgender Jewish LGBTQIA+ Educator, Consultant, and Public Speaker. He supports communities by creating inclusive, affirming, welcoming, and safe environments where everyone can thrive. Lex works with educational institutions, nonprofits, medical centers, and businesses creating and presenting LGBTQIA+ curriculum and workshops, developing inclusive policy, producing educational resources, and providing feedback and action steps to address areas of growth. Through their keynote, Lex shares their journey as the first out transgender athlete at their college and in their sport, and what it was like for them to navigate the binary sports world as a non-binary person — including their experience in switching teams. 

In providing powerful judgment-free safe spaces where all can engage in critical conversations on gender, sexuality, and community, Lex supports people in becoming effective allies in action to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Lex received their B.A. in Psychology and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies from Bowdoin College.

A jack of many trades, Lex shares unique and often profound perspectives about gender and sexuality, transition, mental health, and life in general. Through Ted Talks, podcast interviews, social media shows, and other public speaking forums, Lex provides thought-provoking and transformative ways of thinking about LGBTQ+ identities, topics, and issues—and you will walk away having learned something and thinking about parts of the world in a whole new way.
